First and foremost. Be as honest as you can. This will help you in the long run if you ever want to go back to that job or just one of your employees or managers as a reference down the road. This will help ensure that you don't burn any bridges. Beyond that, here are some other things you need to consider:
1. Medical benefits: Know when these end and what you are going to do in the interim of jobs. You may need to sign up for a personal policy or enroll in COBRA.
2. Manage your savings: You need to find out if you have invested in your company 401K if they will let you keep your money where it is or if you are going to need to roll it over into a new plan or an IRA.
3. Find out what, if any, confidentiality restrictions you may have regarding the work you have done for that company to ensure that you will not have any "conflict of interest" or liability issues in future jobs you may do.
4. Return the company property: Make sure they have everything. Most companies have a checklist for this. By doing so you can be sure you won't receive a partial last paycheck or legal repercussions after you leave for still owning company materials.
5. Be sure your records are correct: Make sure they have your mailing address. Also, make sure things like vacation and sick leave are correct because many comapnies will pay you out for what you have not used.
6. Back to the relationships: Make sure to thank everyone who has helped you since you worked there. You never know when your paths may cross again.
