the one next door, but that there was a wall between the two other apartments across the hallway.
Case solved by C.S.I. Well, not really. You see, after this information was made available to the lead detective on the case, he went and spoke to the people next door and found that; yes, the fifteen year old had been home alone on the day of the robbery, yes, he knew that the crawl space led over to the neighbor's apartment, but, the boy said he hadn't robbed the place it was his friend who had. You see, the boy had lost his front door key to his apartment and was afraid that had he told his mother she would be angry at him and beat him so he never told her. That meant that anytime he left the apartment he had to leave it wide open. Since that was the case, he said, his friends all knew that and when he went out that day his friend, who he only knew by his "street name" had robbed the next door apartment. He didn't know either his friend's real name nor where he lived and hadn't seen him since the robbery.
From that day to this the case has gone no further. Never mind the fact that the robbery included three Asian martial arts swords, very deadly, and some expensive jewelry, because the lead detective said that he couldn't charge the child as his story couldn't be broken. He had managed to take a career detective and make him powerless to do anything to him for a robbery that he, unless you buy into the nonsense story he told, carried out. By the way, the detective retired from the police department a month later and was given something akin to a hero's farewell party from his fellow officers. The papers said he was a great detective who had proudly served the community for more than twenty years.
