If we use mice and dogs in medical research then we are elevating our position to the same level as God. We forget that we were all put on this earth together with a right to be here, unhampered by unnecessary pain and degradation caused by others. This goes for animals as well as humans.

There are many terrible things that humans do to one another because they see themselves as superior to a certain group of people. We need to move towards a more sensitive society that recognizes each others rights to live freely and each others feelings.

If we cant recognize each other as having these rights then I can see why we don't treat animals with respect. However, it is never too late. Promoting any action that moves us toward a more caring society that respects all creatures can only be a good thing.

I understand that medical research is important and necessary but do not see how relevant an experiment on a dog or a mouse will truly benefit mankind. These animals are so far removed from us physically and psychologically that experiments on them will only really show how the experiment affects their species and not our own.

To put these animals through unnecessary pain and suffering when it will probably be of benefit neither to man or beast is inhumane. On top of the moral issues it is also expensive. This means that we are harming animals and the worlds money and getting no-where. The time, effort and money should be used in a more relevant fashion that will benefit more people and do no harm.
