We've come a long way since the bad old days. Women used to slave away in the home while their husbands went out to work. And tea had to be on the table the moment their man walked through the door in the evening. A man's work finished the moment he left the office, but a woman had to keep going until bedtime - and even then she had to pleasure her man whether she wanted to or not.

The 1960s brought a bit of a rebellion from the females of the species. She posed the question, 'Why must it be this way?' Women had shown some sort of individuality before then, particularly with the Suffragette movement in the early part of the 20th Century, which did enough to secure votes for women in Britain. But it was the 1960s when women first really started to break free. They were helped by the invention of The Pill and the freely available abortions, both of which sent the message that women were in control of their bodies.
Later came a change in the way society regarded women. Admittedly, women were still seen as sex objects in much of the media - adverts and films often featured gratuitous sex and it wasn't until a couple of decades further on that the politically correct brigade successful convinced us it was wrong to exploit women in this way.
More and more women went out to work, no longer chained to the home, where it was their job to cook, clean and bring up the children. They became more independent and earned their own money. They were allowed to go out with their friends. In short, they got a life beyond the home. The career girl was also born - the woman who wanted to get on in the business world, even the Alpha woman was created. Marriage was no longer the aim of all teenage girls. They either didn't need a permanent relationship or they put marriage on hold until later on, while they postponed having babies into their 30s and 40s. Or instead of walking down the aisle, they merely lived with someone - and moved on if and when they got bored. Women had become empowered.
The lot of women is far better now than it has ever been. Of course, there are those dinosaurs who will never accept that we deserve equality of opportunity. I specifically avoided the use of the word 'equal' because we are not the same. Women have their strengths, men have theirs. Together, we make a good combination.
For this reason, I believe feminism is outdated. Women have achieved a lot through their efforts and the law recognizes their right to be treated equally. If some ignorant buffoon refuses to accept this, he - or even she! - either needs educating or ignoring.
