Gary Ano made a great point about evil.
As humans, we create evil. We produce terrible ideals and neative perception of our peers. Animals may act in an inhumane nature, but it's about survival. It's instinct.
So, are we animals?
As humans, we choose the evil that we allow in our lives.
I was raised Catholic. I went through the due process. I was confirmed and became an adult in the Catholic church. And then I left...
The church, as I saw it and still see it, allows us to forgive our faults through a limerick. We say a Hail Mary, or three, and then God is happy!? We're forgiven for making a choice that we know is wrong. Life and forgiveness really isn't that simple. Who are we kidding? Even as a young woman, I understood this.
I remember most that when I was young I was told by a priest in confession that God loves everyone and forgives every sin, except for homosexuality. However, my sister and best friend forever was, at the time, partnered with a woman. I remember that I couldn't breathe when he told me this. He was allowing forgiveness for any sin, but calling my sister's lifestyle, which was and will never be wrong, unforgiveable.
I need to stop and say that my sisters,(I have two) have been the Northern lights in my life. They are beacons of knowledge, beauty, intelligence, and the hope that our world will, one day, be a better place.
I am not an atheist. I respect everyone's right to believe and be free and find guidance where they can. I am agnostic.
I respect religion.
I just can't comprehend how a religion or a religious group can set guidelines that allow this and not that.
I know I don't sound respectful right now.
I decided after I left the catholic church that I believe in myself. I believe in the people I can touch and see and feel. I believe in love and the relationships that we form everyday and the knowledge that we gain from human interaction. I believe that the greatest religion is the one that allows us to be ourselves. Regardless of age, gender, color, sexual orientation, or morals.
The religion that will allow truth. To ourselves. Believe in yourself. Surround yourself with good people. Smoke some trees if you want. It's not a sin. Sin equals mistake.
THE ONLY MISTAKE WE WILL EVER MAKE IS THE ONE WE DON'T LEARN FROM.
