How to sell original paintings

The art market is both competitive and highly subjective - you have to stand for something to stand out. Articulating who you are, why you paint a specific subject, in a specific way, goes a long way towards getting your work noticed. I've found that having a body of work that is true to your artistic "voice" is more valuable than having "one great painting" that everyone will fall in love with. Although "a picture is worth a thousand words", you need words to articulate what makes you different.

That said, selling your work is an ongoing, often discouraging process. Depending on your style and subject matter, you will need a different process to connect with buyers. Connecting with other artists first (through art associations, art classes, painting groups) to share ideas and selling strategies will help you develop your own plan, and give you the supporting environment to go for it!

Good Luck!
