Strictly speaking any gene that a baby inherits has a 50/50 chance of coming from either the mother or the father. Traits can also skip a generation or two. For example, if you had a great-grandparent with bright red hair and neither your Grandparents, parents, or you have red hair, your baby could still end up with red hair. Genetics (in terms of determining which genes a baby will inherit) is sort of like a guessing game. You can come up with all the possiblities, but can't choose which your child will inherit.
There are many factors that determine a person's intelligence. While a predisposition to being smart could be inherited other things come into play. For example, is the child's need for food, shelter, and love fulfilled? Does the child get enough stimulation?
If you want to give your child the best chances for developing her/his maximum intelligence potential the best thing to do is to engage your child. Take him/her to different places. Talk to your child about everything you can. Read to them. Answer their questions. We all learn through experience, and if you give your child the opportunity to experience things they will blossom.
