Identifying the assassin of JFK

by Nouri Arif

Created on: June 17, 2007

The truth is funny thing. The Chinese have a saying that, paraphrased, states that there are three truths; your truth, their truth and the truth and that the three shall never meet. This seems to perfectly sum up the situation surrounding the assassination of John F. Kennedy. To believe that one individual, Lee Harvey Oswald, was responsible seems totally unreasonable given that there are so many witnesses that suggest that he couldn't have done it alone or at all. To believe in a conspiracy seems equally far fetched as it has been so complete and so perfect a conspiracy that no one involved has ever spoken. But, to believe that the truth will ever come to light is absolutely impossible to imagine as it might well rip the foundations of government apart should anyone really know who was responsible for this outrage.

Kennedy was well hated by many. His decision to not provide air support to the invasion of the Bay of Pigs in Cuba was heralded as nothing short of being accessory to the murders of the freedom fighters that died in that action. The attempts that were made to eliminate Fidel Castro while Kennedy was in office were a laughing point of his administration. His desire to not escalate the war in Vietnam was enough to make most all of the military industrial complex and a great many of his own generals want to see him dead. The idea of tearing the C.I.A. up and "scattering it to the wind" made many a covert agent want to urinate on the man's grave. Add to this that he was sleeping with a drug addled actress who called the White House often in a stupor and that his own brother was sleeping with her too while he was having another affair with the daughter of a mafia don who he and his brother were trying to bring to justice and you've got a pretty good list of powerful enemies. There are more than that to boot.

Lee Harvey Oswald must have been quite something really. He was a buck Sergeant in the Marine Corps who spoken Russian, well enough if not fluently, to pass himself off as being a Russian national to his bride to be when they met in Russia. He defected to the U.S.S.R. during the height of the Cold War and was allowed to reenter the U.S. without so much as a debriefing session and faced no criminal charges for this action. And he was allowed to bring his new wife along as well. He was in the U.S.S.R. at the time that Gary Powers' U2 spy plane was shot down and was a radar operator in the military prior to his discharge. He was a fixture in New Orleans
