Children see a warped view of the world, as shown by reality tv shows, advertisements and marketing, and declining moral values. When parents do not teach the children real values and expectations, there is nothing more for the children to do but turn on the television and absorb the lessons there. With Bratz dolls, the lesson is that dressing like a slut and going to parties at a young age are common expectations and inherent in becoming a teenager. Aren't these dolls portrayed to be 15?
To a point, an emphasis on fashion for young girls is a black hole, because it perpetuates the stereotype that all women love to shop and spend hours on makeup and hair. While it is true that everyone likes to look their best (most without sacrificing too much) I think that it is pointless to focus on the process of shopping as the most important part of life.
I think that it is horribly disgusting to see girls as young as ten trying to act and dress as if they are sexy and 18. Parents ought not to allow their children to dress like this. My stepbrother has gotten into many situations where he and his friends have lied about their own ages (17 at the time) to groups of girls they assumed were 18. Most of these girls turned out to be around 13 or 14. How does this speak to the degeneration of society?
While this is an appropriate thing for toy and clothing makers to try and teach-after all, they have to market somehow, and why not in the perpetuation of shopping?-parents ought to teach their children real values and realisitic goals in life where they can become someone rather than turn into slaves of the clothing industry.
