Superman vs Batman... This would, despite what some may think, not be an interesting battle at all. The "battle" would be short, sweet, quick, and the winner would have to be particularly decisive and, to some extent, willing to drift from their normal moral values. Allow me to explain.
Superman, as a supernatural hero, is known for his properties of a modern day "knight". On top of this, however, he is viewed as physically invincible. However, due to his knight-like qualities, he's highly subjective and moral, which can take away from his decisiveness. If you haven't noticed, Superman, based on the Smallville series and the original Superman movies, has been cut more than a few breaks of luck to insure his survival, normally due to his unwavering mercy.
Batman, on the other hand, is known for his undying cunning and confidence. No obstacle seems to big for him, and no enemy too powerful. Of course, if you thrown Superman and Batman in an arena in which they have no choice but to fight to the death, Superman would "win" without a doubt, unless Batman had planned before the fight. But hold on a sec, and rewind a bit: if Batman and Superman were to be thrown in some sort of an arena, forced to fight to the death, would Superman ever really kill Batman?
Based on Superman's morale and subjectivity, there is little argument in the fact that Superman would probably be incapable of killing his trusted ally Batman, causing something of a draw or a delay in the process.
Now if you give Batman a little time to prepare himself, he could have Superman at his feet, little more than the helpless human Clark Kent is supposed to appear to be in front of those ignorant to his secret.
Either way, the battle would be quick. There are several ways it could turn out, of course, among them:
Take away Superman's morale and subjectivity in a head to head fight, Superman would dominate Batman with no competition. Batman probably wouldn't even have known what happened.
Make their fight not head to head, more like a traditional Superman-Lex Luther "battle", and Batman would surely never let himself come face to face with Clark lacking a foolproof plan to bring the enemy down.
A regular fight between Superman and Batman, head to head, with no changes to the characteristics to the individuals, and neither would win. Neither Batman nor Superman are portrayed as heroes capable of treachery.
Obviously there are more scenarios I did not include that could play out in similar ways. However, regardless, my vote still goes with Batman: Brain over brawn all the way.
