One day I got the incredibly brilliant idea to dye my red hair jet black. Ok, it sounds crazy now, but at the time it made perfect sense! I was getting ready to go see the Kiss concert, when they were touring a few years back with the makeup on, so I thought I'd fit in better with the creatures of the night, with black hair. Plus, I was in the mood for a dramatic, shocking change. So I went for it. I didn't even really think too much about it or give it much consideration. I just went to the local Wal Mart, picked out black hair dye, and went home and with the help of my sister and my friend, I dyed my hair black.
It was a dramatic, shocking change, to say the least. I have the whitest skin ever- I have been called Casper, and my hair went from red to jet, stark black. I enjoyed it, at first. I walked around with my shocking, jet black hair proudly. I painted my face up like a cat and fit right in at KISS concert. After the concert, it was Halloween, so alot of people just assumed I was pulling a Halloween stunt. Okay, whatever.
Well, into November, my shocking black hair that had been turning heads and getting comments, was getting kind of old! By this time, I was getting tired of the Marilyn Manson and Trent Reznor refrences. I was getting sick of people asking why I didn't do my eyebrows, as well. And most importantly, I was getting sick of looking in the mirror and seeing my pale, ghost white skin and the shocking jet black hair. I was ready for my new look to be over and done with!
I had the black hair for about a month, and was constantly washing my hair, trying to get it to at least fade a little. Then, I started throwing other colors on top of it, various shades of dark brown. But it seemed like the black color was stronger than ever. So my sister told me about a product she had seen at Kmart, where she worked, that took hair dye out of your hair.So I ran out to get it. I found a little tiny box, on the very bottom shelf, along with all the various types of hair dye, and I took it home and tried it. I followed the directions, which was pretty much like dying your hair.It had a very strong, intense odor, and I laid in the middle of the floor, with it soaking into my head, and I was almost overcome by the fumes, but I just cried and prayed it would take some of the black out, and tone it down a little!
After I washed it out of my hair, I dried my hair, and then looked in the mirror- and to my amazement- I had about 4 colors going on- my hair now had some red in it, some brown, some orange, and a little bit of the black was left in it! I looked like a calico cat! In fact, I looked like our calico cat, Motorhead! My friends and family called me Motorhead, and Tony the Tiger. But I didn't care, because I liked it.
After that, I left my hair alone for awhile and soon enough, it went back to its normal shade of reddish-brown.
I still like to do different things with my hair color, but I have not dyed it black since. I enjoyed it for a little while, but the thrill wore off quickly. This taught me a valuable lesson in hair dye. When dyeing your hair, make sure its truly something you want to do, and be sure you are ready to deal with the consequences. Or make sure you have alot of hats.
