Tips for switching to cleaner energy sources

Electrical energy comes from a few sources on Earth: Fossil-Fuel Power Plants, Nuclear Power Plants, Solar Power Plants, Wind Power, and Hydro-electric Dams.

Ironically, all of these power sources will pollute the environment. Solar and Wind power destroy the habitat of animals, as well as creating toxic compounds during the manufacture of the equipment.

I'll focus this essay on wind power for the time being.

WIND POWER?

From an article in the International Business Times (http://www.ibtimes.com, April 25th, 2007) Wind Power accounts for roughly 75,000 megawatts of electricity world wide. (75,000 megawatts is enough energy to power 12,000,000 American households.)

The problems facing current wind power technology are three-fold: production is expensive, the electricity is more expensive, and wind is intermittent.

The pros: Wind Power is renewable, and a possible long-term source of energy.

Summary

To actively pursue cleaner energy sources, such as wind power, we have to place out vote with politicians who will honor our requests to have a cleaner environment.

Please write a letter to your local state senator urging them to look at cleaner alternatives to fossil-fuels.
