Wealthy international students often choose American colleges and universities for one simple reason they want to live the American Dream.
For many non-Americans, the chance to live in the US is a dream that will never come true. Getting a visa to live in the US is very difficult and most people will never qualify. However, one of the easiest ways to qualify is by getting accepted at an American college or university. Choosing to go to school in the US opens the door to getting to live in the US and experience the American way of life. For many students, this provides an escape from the sometimes strict culture of their homeland.
Escaping from their homeland to study in the US also provides students with the chance to be independent for four years. They get to meet new people from different countries, travel to New York and Los Angeles, and do something different than everyone back home. In reality, it is no different than American students who choose to go to school in Florida, when they grew up in Seattle. Sometime students want to use their university years as a chance to try something new and be on their own for a while. For international students who can afford it, studying in the US provides this opportunity.
Besides getting to live the American Dream and being independent, there are also many other practical reasons for choosing to study in the US. First, students get to spend four years learning and practicing their English. For the majority of the international students, this will greatly improve their chances of finding a well paid job back home. Also, American universities and colleges are usually considered the most prestigious. Therefore, students are more highly regarded if they attend an American school than one in their home country. Finally, getting the opportunity to study in America provides these students with a different type of educational experience than they probably would have experienced at home.
Living the American Dream, being independent, and a better chance at a well paid job back home all are reasons why wealthy international students often choose to study at American colleges and universities.
