Meaning of Life

Why do we live?

Why do we live is a simple question. Its answer varies from person to person in complexity. However, it is my belief that the answer actually is quite simple, regardless who you are or what you believe. Although their are various forms to living, they all have a basic foundation firmly rooted in existence. Among people their are atheists, agnostics, and various believers in God, be it Judaism, Christianity, or Devil worship. However, these are all tied to one unified foundation of experience, they all 'do' something to 'be' something. What you do may be different from what I do, but we are both "doing" something. This in itself is the reason that we live. One experience can never be justified by decision, they are simply given a value by comparison. Perhaps you would compare oak to bamboo? Is one better? Do they both serve a purpose? The answer is that we live not as things that may be ranked better or worse, useful or not. We live as many minds experiencing a myriad different things at once. We live to grow, and we grow sometimes by immoral ways, sometimes by moral ways. Take the volunteer, he spends his time helping others. This uplifts his experience, and he learns. Take the thief, he steals from another. This uplifts his experience too. Both learn something, regardless of right or wrong, as experience continues to progress across time from left to right. The experience varies, the value of it does not. This value is why we live, simply to experience. For the atheist it is chance to be here. And life should be lived to the fullest before it blinks out. For the Christian it is to empty yourself of sin, and in so doing be more like god. For the Buddhist it is the attainment of enlightenment. Regardless of the goal, and how different the paths are, they end the same. The proof that we live only to experience is in the fact that we are all doing it now. Moreover, anyone telling you that we do not live to experience must practice life and existence to utter those very words. How then can you say that we live for anything but what anyone chooses? Every answer is right for that one. And all answers are made of the same fabric, simply to experience, exist, and to grow.
