Firings: Understand why you were fired

She had the best news ever. After working 4 years at a paint store Jessica was offered a better job. A customer asked her to work for him as his secretary with a bigger pay rate. Of course the answer was yes. Who wouldn't? Leaving heavy duty work wear you wear the same uniform everyday only to cover it in more paint stains to working behind a desk wearing nice clothes and high heels never expected to do any heavy lifting! What girl wouldn't trade an $8.50 and hour job at a paint store for a secretary position making $11.50? She couldn't wait to put in her two weeks notice.
Her first day was absolutely the best. She called everyone she knew letting them know what she was doing. Nothing! All he expected her to do was answer the phones and look as good as possible. Three weeks went by and he called her in to his office. He had bad news. He had to let her go because he decided that he wanted an older lady who would stay with the company for a long time and being that Jessica was still young she would want to go back to school. He couldn't keep her. She couldn't believe it. She hadn't mentioned anything to anyone about going back to school.
Why would this man go into a business offering a girl a new job with better benefits and take her away from a good job and then after three weeks take it all back. She couldn't go back to her old job because she had already been replaced and the classifieds were not promising. She lost everything.
What was the real reason behind her firing? Maybe he found someone better looking? Thinner? Maybe he was expecting her to take more initiative and do what no other secretary had attempted to do. But the reason he gave was probably not the real reason. Employers have 90 days to fire you for any reason at all. It could be that they don't like your hair or teeth. They don't even have to give you the reason.
