Of course I disagree because I never have. Ever. Period. Only got me fired once. If you kiss-up, which I take to mean you agree with everything the boss says, then you are not worth having around. Or, said another way, if two people in a business situation always agree, one of them is unnecessary.
In my work life, I have dealt with bosses who expected, but did not get this, from me. And, with the one exception, my viewpoints, while not always right were at least respected.
Same thing with my employees. If they do not challenge me, I Wonder if they are doing their job.
Now, this does not mean to be rude to the boss, because the boss does write your check. But it does mean to learn the business, develop opinions, and share them with the boss.
DO NOT contradict the boss outside of her office. Except in rare circumstances, the company must present a united and consistent image to customers, clients, etc and the best way to get fired is to sow dissention. If you cannot live with how the company does business, quit and find another job. Life is just too short.
The best way to "get ahead", whatever that means, is to find something you like doing, get the proper training (school and OJT) and do it better than everyone else, believe in yourself and be willing to stick your neck out. It's true the only way to get your neck chopped off is to stick it out, but as the saying goes, the only way the turtle makes progress is to do it. (ENOUGH CLICHE already.)
