In the last twenty years, non - profit health organizations have began to become more and more visable. This falls back on the supply and demand idealism that when people need something, others will rise to the occasion to provide for your need.
Most of what people are seeing now a days is a rise in HIV/AIDS non - profit organizations and well as other groups choosing to concentrate on providing services to benefit people who suffer from a variety of diseases and viruses.
"HEAL Colorado Springs provides such great services to people in our community." Said Frank Volz of the newest community organization in Colorado Springs.
HEAL Colorado Springs was created in January 2007 with a mission to provide alternative therapies to people who suffer for HIV/AIDS and Cancer. The program concentrates on services such as yoga, tai chi, acupuncture and many other alternative therapies.
"After reviewing several health related statistics," said Jeremy Cleveland, Chairperson of HEAL Colorado Springs, "we realized that people could really benefit from participating in alternative therapies."
Alternative therapies is the term for medical products and practices that are not part of standard care. Standard care is what medical doctors, doctors of osteopathy and allied health professionals, such as registered nurses and physical therapists, practice. Alternative medicine means treatments that you use instead of standard ones. Complementary medicine means nonstandard treatments that you use along with standard ones. Examples of CAM therapies are acupuncture, chiropractic and herbal medicines.
According to Jeremy, people with a low white blood cell count, the cells that provide energy to the body, should participate in yoga or acupuncture at least once a week.
"Studies have shown that people with small amounts of white blood cell can raise those numbers naturally by participating in alternative therapies." Jeremy explained.
According to the CDC, taking an active role in any disease is an important adjunct to treatment. Consideration of alternative therapies in conjunction with conventional medicine may offer additional opportunities for persons living with HIV/AIDS to be proactively involved in their treatment.
The same is true for people who suffer from Cancer. Cancer Alternative Medicine treatments do not work for everyone, but some methods such as acupuncture might help with nausea, pain and other side effects of cancer treatment.
While HEAL Colorado Springs is still in the midst of a growing phase, the program is making large strides to offer a variety of alternative therapies to their community.
