Finding good employees and making them great

Finding good employees and making them great

As we all know, the corporate world is highly competitive and recruiting the best candidates can be crucial to the success of any organization. Instead of companies relying on the efforts of their Human Resource professionals to search for quality candidates, many outsource these needs to placement firms. The billion dollar staffing industry has become a pivotal resource for finding good employees for companies. Professional recruiters not only rely on finding talented employees by utilizing job boards, but successful recruiters are networking, getting referrals and calling their clients' competitors for candidates. Once a recruiter has found viable candidates for their clients, a pre-screening process then is required. There is the initial phone interview, a face-to face interview, possible testing and background checks. Every staffing firm is required to perform these assessments for their clients to eliminate and qualify candidates for opportunities. Of course, the pre-screening process does not predict how a candidate will perform during a temporary assignment or during the interview with a client. But, it can disqualify those that are not suited for the job. There's no guarantee however, that a candidate will become successful just because they have the qualifications to fit the position.

With a temporary assignment, the candidate has an up hill battle when it comes to fitting in with the environment and learning the job with very little training. How can a candidate go from being a good employee with the right qualifications to a great employee that's indispensable? With a lot of motivation, a temp can go far with the assistance of a good team. Of course, candidates need to have that fire that creates opportunities for themselves but with the help of recruiters and clients, these candidates can become performers for the company. The key is communication with the candidate and the client. There cannot be a breakdown of feedback by any party in order for the candidate to succeed. Without the communication process, the temporary candidate can fall through the cracks and not exceed expectations.
The top temporary performers ultimately get hired by the client because they are able to assess the situation and adapt to their new environment quickly and effectively. The good employee does their job and falls under the radar while a great employee push themselves everyday and are able to take negative criticism and improve upon their performance. Great employees are not made everyday. It takes motivation and communication to make a candidate irreplaceable. Without these factors, candidates cannot grow and become valuable assets to their company.
