Terrorism

Domestic war on terror

The slogan 'war on terror' has bothered me from the beginning. Webster's defines war as "open armed conflict as between nations." Now that we have that settled, there, in my opinion, is not a war on terror going on, just as there is not a war on drugs. I speak to many 'regular' Americans and not one time has anyone indicated to me that they were afraid of a terrorist attack. Most Americans, in my opinion would prefer to have much of the money allocated for terrorism used to better our great Nation. Some will argue, if we don't fight them (terrorist) there we will fight them here. That is a lie. If instead of spending large sums of money trying to eradicate terrorism in another country we should just seal our borders. People, lets use common sense - we are surrounded by the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. The terrorist who attacked our nation on 9/11 were already here. This sounds like an immigration problem to me.

Myself and many other regular Americans are tired of politicians using lies and deceit to spend our tax dollars. This is a slap at both democrat and republican politicians. We have rights guaranteed to us under the constitution and no 'so called' terrorist should be powerful enough to intimidate us into giving up those rights. The attacks that have been prevented by the government-I don't believe it. What most Americans don't know is that many of the charges against individuals arrested for terrorist related activities are later dismissed. Now I am sure that there are probably people in this country who would like to do us harm and when they are discovered they should be punished. I also know that everyone the government labels as a terrorist is not (Martin King, Nelson Mandela et. seq.).

This problem is being mismanaged just like the war on drugs has been mismanaged. Invading other countries is not the way to prevent terrorism, and anyone who says otherwise is misinformed or confused. We need to get at the root cause of the problem. Arresting drug traffickers will not reduce the influx of drugs if there are still drug addicts in America. Terrorism will not be prevented if there is still hatred on both sides.

So here is my idea. Seal the borders. This will kill two birds with one stone. In essence, this will stop the flow of illegal drugs into our nation and will prevent those who want to harm America from entering the country. This will then reduce our prison population, which will save us tax payers money. More men will remain in society with there children, which will reduce future crime rates. We must also be diligent in checking every foreign national who enters the country. Will this plan stop every potential terrorist, probably not, but it will reduce our risk, free up money for education, and strengthen our on Nation.

Instead of the 'domestic war on terror' we should have a 'domestic war on poverty.' But why would we do that, our policy makers and their kids are not poor.
