SHATTERED SOUL

One person controlled my fate,
Still he haunts my memory,
Savagely he came into my life
And took my soul away,
He left me bruised and bleeding,
Every night when I close my eyes
I'm forced to relive that horrible night,
I look at myself in the mirror
And see empty eyes staring back,
They said in time I'd heal,
But how does a shattered soul survive,
I've been stripped to the skin
And left vulnerable for all to see,
I've been burned to the bone,
Now everything harsh in life
Stings more than it should,
My heart is afraid to hope
That one day somebody
Will understand my pain,
And see past the scars,
I feel more insecure that I ever did before,
When my lover professes his feelings
Immediately my heart has doubts,
For how can somebody love
Something as broken as me
