No, I do not believe that the Guantanamo Bay Prison facility should be closed. During War time, all prisoners of war, suspected terrorists, captured enemy combatants must be housed for the protection of our Country, The United States of America.
There are approximately 500 detainees at the prison at this time. In the latter part of May, in 2007, 384 Afghanistan detainees were brought to the Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay's facility. Of this group, some workers were swept up in the mass arrests of many Arab men, however according to Donald Rumsfeld these people will all be detained for the duration of the Iraq, Afghanistan conflict. There will be an opportunity for release when it is felt by our United States Government that there are absolutely no effects of global terrorists networks functioning in the world. The probability of that happening does not look promising, but it stands out as one of the decisions our law makers have initiated. The fact remains that there are innocent people held captive, as well as, guilty individuals, and we refer to the prisoners as, "Enemy Combatants", because it best relates to the current dreadful fear of the infiltration of the prisons with Terrorists working from within the prison itself. The laws of war, according to the Geneva Convention, states that captured combatants may be detained until the end of all active hostilities between Countries opposed to, as in this case, the United States of America.

A 30 million dollar facility has been built to consolidate many of the Guantanamo Bay base camps maximum, and medium facilities for inmates. I wish to state that many of the prisoners at Gitmo have been acquitted in lawful, criminal proceedings, these people are housed in the prison, under medium security.
It is with the best interest of the United States of America to remain optimistically cautious. It is not within our best interest to ignore the powerful infiltration of terrorists cells that have illegally permeated their networks on our American soil. These people are without conscience, and more powerfully speaking they lack faith in God. Sadly, for them, and for us, they do not consider life as precious a commodity as we Americans do.
This is a critical period of time for we Americans. We all know that it is more than possible for Iran, Russia, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Syria, and many other political enemies to escalate this war, and in the process annihilate us. We must ban together more powerfully, more strongly, and with unity.
I fervently hope that the sacrifice of our soldiers, and their families, can one day be justified.
In order to maintain our current status, we must incarcerate the enemy who are surreptitiously planning insidious harm upon our country, and wherever they are, capture them and place them in Guantanamo Bay Naval Base Prison.
