Would I pay $22,000 for a cat? Of course not! Well... maybe.
I think it's part of human nature to be appalled at the huge amounts of cash the rich throw at rarities and unusual trinkets. It seems they would be better to spend their money on more important things, like, say, helping me pay off my credit card debt. But when you think about it, if you've got millions sitting around in the bank, money you've presumably earned by offering something valuable to society (presumably being the key word here), then I suppose it might be ok to enjoy spending a little of that cash on yourself. After all, you can't give it all away to poor starving writers.
That said, I would love to live with an Ashera. They're beautiful, exotic creatures, and if they had them at the local pound there's no doubt I would already have brought one home. Wouldn't it be fun to wrestle with kitty like you can with your neighbor's Rottweiler? Ok, maybe not. But it would be an amazing experience to share your home with a creature so evocative of stalking jungle beasts and Egyptian statues. It's the closest most of us could get to a wild feline, only without the cruelty of removing one from the wild. The Ashera is a domestic cat and as such, I'm sure it demands to be pampered like one. And I don't know anyone who would want to deny the demands of a cat that size.
I'm sure the guilt factor would come into play in this purchase. If I had that much money to spend on one highly overpriced feline, I'd have to admit it would be better to spend it on the thousands of lovable garden variety cats dying in shelters. So as long as I've got money to burn, I might as well write another $22,000 check to the ASPCA. Hmmm, this is fun! I like having money!
In conclusion, I've got to say an unequivocal yes to throwing money about foolishly on monster-sized spotted cats. It's good for the shelters, it's good for the Ashera breeders (especially the Ashera breeders!), it's good for the cat, and most of all, it's good for my fantasy life. Try it yourself, you'll like it!
