As the only direct link to the road surface, tires on a vehicle hold the balance. Nowadays, large wheels with low profile and wide tires is the general trend.
But why a low profile tire? Reasons are
(1) Lower center of gravity for better stability
(2) Reduced weight - 4 lbs for 22.5"
(3) Lower tire and platform height
(4) More precise, better performance on cornering
(5) More attractive looks
(6) Inexpensive (generally)
Then, how to buy the low profile tires for your existing car? Here're some points you should consider carefully:
* Check your vehicle's recommended tire size and inflation pressure to choose the most compatible low profile ones
* Road Quality - With less rubber, low profile tire increases rides harshness and wears easily. So if you often drive on bumpy roads, large-size tires will be better.
* Weather Condition - Some places with plenty of rains while some others with long-term hot sunshine. So choose a capable wet-weather tire if you're in Washington.
* Change all the four tires at the same time, do not mix with conventional ones
To safely install your new tire, do ask an experienced dealer. Never try it yourself without enough knowledge and experience.
In a word, think carefully what you really need and factor it in with your budget. It's always toilsome to make changes or decisions.
