The Internal Revenue service can be terminated and should be as well. It is necessary thanks only to an enormous tax code. That code should simply be replaced with a single page document. That document would be given to every one with a social security number and every business with a Tax ID number once a year. This document would have a line stating income, a line stating charitable deductions, and a line for our most coveted deductions (mortgage interest and authorized savings accounts like retirement) and then a line to multiply a flat rate for taxes to be paid. This is all we need. It could be done on one computer screen via the Internet as well.
There are other ideas out there like the "Fair Tax." The proponents claim it is revenue neutral and it would be if America continued to spend the exact same amount of money as it does today. Who in their right mind really thinks that people are going to spend the same amount of money when a national sales tax is going to charge over 20% on a gallon of milk? There is no way the Fair Tax is revenue neutral because American's will take their savings and keep it from the tax man.
The worse alternative is to do nothing. The IRS continues to try and work with an archaic code, corporations continue to duck their fair share, and the reasonable middle class continue to get stuck for more. We need a new system. See paragraph one.
