Allergies have always tortured me. I get asthma attacks, itchy and watery eyes, swollen sinuses, and almost instant sinus infections every time the weather changes, I encounter dust, or I pet my cat. Instead of getting better as I get older, I have become more and more susceptible to these allergies. I tried everything I could think of. I took herbs, I bought an air purifier, and I took every over the counter allergy medicine available and several prescription varieties. Nothing worked.
Afraid that I was going to have to be put on and ongoing regimen of antibiotics, I sought the advice of a natural health practitioner. He recommended that I purchase a Neti Pot. I was extremely skeptical, but desperate, so I went to my local health food store and purchased a pot and a bag of un-iodized, fine grained salt. It worked like a miracle. Within hours I felt improvement, and within a couple of days I was completely healed.
The Neti Pot is an invention of yogis. The yogis used small pots filled with warm saline to flush their sinuses before practicing yoga. It was a way to cleanse themselves and promote their deep breathing technique. It works for allergy symptoms for the same reasons. It flushes the allergens out of your sinus passages, and keeps the passages clean and infection free.
It is easy and actually feels pretty good. You simply fill the tiny teapot-looking vessel with warm water and add a teaspoon of un-iodized salt or sea salt. Stir until the salt is dissolved and then place the spout of the pot against your nostril. Tilt your head to the side and face slightly down over a sink and proceed to pour the contents of the pot into your nose. The water flows through your sinus passage and exits out your other nostril. Repeat the process for your other side and you're done! The water doesn't pour down your throat or choke you.
Now the Neti Pot is part of my daily routine, and I no longer have to take any allergy medication of any kind. I have also found that it helps me ward off colds and flu. I wish I had known about it earlier and saved myself all those years of allergic misery. The Neti Pot is a natural, holistic, and healthy way to end allergies, seasonal or otherwise.
