Take it one month at a time. Here are some things I have told myself to get through the rough times:
I am burning hundreds of calories; pass the cake!
This is saving me enough for a cleaning lady and a mani/pedi.
This month it's about making my baby smarter.
If I can do this, I can do anything!
This month I'm breastfeeding because my breast milk is custom made for my baby's needs.
I am tough enough to do this now.
I want to be able to tell myself I've done everything I could for this kid.
It's helping his immune system.
I am super-mommy!
Nothing scares me now.
The bottom line is we all know it's best for our babies. Just tell yourself whatever you have to keep going. Delay deciding to quit breastfeeding until your experience is at least neutral. Know you are doing something you can be proud of.
