BAD FRIENDS
The worst of friends will tell me
What I never wish to hear,
Thus doing, they dispel me
Of the things I once held dear.
They aren't afraid to pop me
When I'm all puffed up in pride;
They never fail to stop me
When I join the other side.
My bad friends never leave me
When my good ones go and play.
Instead, they call and grieve me
When I wish they'd go away.
Perhaps I have it backward;
I've considered it all wrong.
Despite the leading of the herd,
My bad friends make me strong.
They push me, and they prod me
With persistence and concern,
Encourage and applaud me,
On occasions when I learn.
My vision's finally clearing,
As I thought it never would.
My bad friends are endearing;
Hey, my bad friends are quite good!
