The NBA has already tried that experiment and it was not successful. I won't say it failed, because it wasn't a disaster, but it had its flaws.

I know this is America the land of free enterprise and big business. Every man should be able to earn his wares when he is capable to do so. Sometimes there is a urgent need that needs financial assistance right away.

Overall this experiment was not successful because too many many people began to exploit the system. This was happening everywhere both internal and external. Everything from kids being ill-advised to come out of high school, which is a step above a college kid coming out of school early. It thins out the talent pool in the college ranks and it causes college players to consider leaving school just to keep up with other players (or the pace).

Most young high school grads are not ready to come out of school and handle the large contracts, the business end, the social and the other ends of being a professional athlete. It takes a certain level of maturity, level-headiness, and wisdom to make it successfully in the pro ranks. That is not even accounting for your level of skill on the hardwood or gym.

Because a high school kid has to be a certain age, (I believe he has to wait at least one year after his class graduates), before he can play in the NBA, I don't think that recruiting them matters much. If a perspective player is recruited he will go with the first team that selects him.

The only way the high schooler can use recruiting to his advantage is if he isn't drafted and becomes a free agent. Then he knows which teams want him and can assess what they told him in the process.

I feel that it is important to wait until after the kid graduates that way his focus will be on that special event and not the NBA as much.
