Should minors be allowed to use tanning beds?
Frankly, I find it a bit shocking that this question is even raised!
What level of vanity have we reached, if our children are concerned about becoming suntanned? Today's tanning beds, with their high-powered ultraviolet lamps, may pose an even greater skin cancer threat than the actual sun.
Is a healthy glow worth risking a child's health?
Truly, if children were to play outside, instead of hovering over indoor video games, they would be tanned AND toned. This would reduce their risks of melanoma (skin cancer), because they would not feel the need for store-bought tanning.
In addition, the outdoor activity would tone up their tummies and other parts! Their cardio-vascular and overall health would be vastly improved.
Why are we raising a generation of sedentary, but suntanned, indoor inhabitants? Instead of roller-skating and biking, they are reaching for the remote control!
Let's get kids off the tanning beds and back out on the baseball diamond! Let them tan the old-fashioned way. (And don't forget the sunscreen!)
