One of the best summer vacation strategies I've learned for my children is making frequent trips to the public library. Both my children, ages eight and three, love the library. They are enthralled with rows and shelves of endless books.
Our library kicked off its summer reading program a few weeks ago and my daughter signed up right away. This is something she looks forward to every year. The rewards for reading all summer are fun for her to earn, and in the process enriches her reading skills.
Trips to the library aren't just for older children, though. My three-year-old son loves going, too. In fact, he asks almost every day if we can "go to da wi-bwawee."
If you make reading fun, an adventure even, all children will love it. Reading builds a child's imagination, which is so important in this age of television-watchers.
