The high school mentality and how it affects our generation

by Chels

High school. mostly everybody remembers it, and some people are living it(in high school now). Me I'm living it. I am a high school student, a rising sophomore. High schools not so much hard in the work but in whats expected of you. And i don't mean from the teachers. I mean whats expected of you from the students, my friends, even the kids that i don't know. High school is a lot harder for the youth today then it was 20 years ago.

A lot more pressures are put on us and so much more is expected of us now. Sure High Schools all about growing up and learning about yourself and finding out who you really are but in doing all this. So much is forced on us today that the true meaning is lost. If you don't wear designer clothes you don't fit in. If your hair is not perfect or the right style, you can forget having friends.

It's all about the social class now. Everyone wants to be popular but not everyone can be. And if your not then your classified as a social outcast, a person who just doesn't belong. Its hard getting up every day and making sure everything on you is perfect, for fear if its not then something bad will happen that day. The mentality is just cruel now and i can say this because i am a high school student and i live in this everyday. The Adults now who think they know what goes on in High school today are sadly mistaken because things have changed big time from when they were high school.

Not as much was expected of them like it is of us now. parents wonder why there child acts the way they do or wonder why they kid has changed so much in just one year of being at high school. And they don't understand that we have to change. We have to put on a mask to hide who we really are because we fear that the other kids won't like who we really are.

High school is all about fitting in now.
