You have to do it for awhile to be considered a great shortstop. I know Reyes became better known last year but he has more experience and was in the pros while Ramirez was still in Pawtucket. Plus, while Ramirez is surely a great hitter, Reyes brings something to the game that very few players do. There aren't many player who bring a sense of excitement every time they step on the field but Reyes does. While I hesitate to ever compare a player to Jeter because he is in a class by himself Reyes is the heir apparent to Jeter because her can hurt you in so many different ways and has that Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson ability to be able to see not the play that his happening but the play that is about to happen. Ramirez is still young and this question may be answered differently in a couple of years but I would also rate Rollins from the Phillies and Hardy from the Brewers ahead of Ramirez. There were also some attitude questions about Ramirez that have not come up when he was with the Marlins but they still linger, and is one of the reasons that Epstein was ready to trade Ramirez to the Marlins, and don't forget, the two guys the Sox got in that trade, one is 9-0 and the other is leading the American League east's best team in homeruns and RBI's. I just think it it was too early to be comparing Ramirez to Reyes. Give him a couple of years, give him some clutch at bats in a playoff race, and then maybe we will decide.
