This day in age there is a medical remedy for everything. Many doctor's are quick to pull out their prescription tablets for your every complaint. You tell your pediatrician that your child is very hyper, the doctor may say the child has ADHD and prescribe a medicine. Tell your doctor you feel stressed and again here come the pills.
Many of our ailments are a natural part of life. Children are supposed to be hyper, it's in their nature. Much like a young kitten who spends most of it's time playing as opposed to an adult cat who sleeps 90% of the day. You don't assume there is something wrong with your playful kitten, and so you shouldn't assume there is anything wrong with your over active child.
Stress is also a natural part of life. As with most things we feel, stress is our body's way of telling us something. Just as with pain, it is our body telling us there is a problem somewhere. We feel stress for many different reasons. It can be associated with anxiety, frustration, anger, or exhaustion. Everyone experiences stress differently, and react differently towards it. Something that may seem stressful to one person would not be stressful at all to someone else.
Although it is a part of life, stress can also harm us if not dealt with properly. Feeling stress may lead to heart problems, eating disorders, sleep disorders, and mental illness. It also weakens our immune system and wears our body down. Therefor finding ways to reduce or minimize the stress in our lives in beneficial to our health.
So why not just take a pill and forget about it? Taking a pill does seem like a quick, easy fix for the problem. However, as with most quick and easy fixes, a pill won't alleviate the problem. A pill cannot remove the stress from our lives or reduce the circumstances surrounding it. The only thing medicine can do is make our body react differently to that stress. Basically, the pill is only masking the stress, not relieving it.
How can you manage stress without a pill? It may not be as quick and easy as popping a pill everyday, but stress can be managed without the use of medication. You must first recognize the cause of your stress, get down to the bottom of it. You must also determine if this stress is temporary, long term, or an occasional everyday sort of stress.
Temporary stress can be more difficult to reduce. Knowing that it will relieve itself eventually isn't always a comforting thought. Perhaps you're stressed over a recent event, such as a divorce or death of a loved
