Clearing up misconceptions about Wicca

Why is it that according to the dictionary, the word pagan means "heathen", which means "uncivil" or "godless person", when that is hardly the case..We "godless persons" actually believe in a number of Gods and Goddesses..Is it because we don't believe in a "Christian god" that we are considered "godless"?
I pride myself for being open-minded enough to accept that there is no ONE way to anything, including serving, worshiping or just believing..I personally see that different religions have good and not so good points and beliefs..But to be considered a "heathen", well now that's just absurd..I'm anything but, I consider myself more of an eclectic..I like to grasp what I believe to be the better beliefs of different religions..Now really, does that make me sound like a "heathen"?. I think not...
