Summer is the busiest time of year when construction ties up the freeways down to one lane, skateboarders roll dangerously close to your freshly waxed car, and you want to escape all of hectic life and head to the beach. One thing you shouldn't have to worry about is your beauty habits. Here are a few things to keep it simple this summer when looking your best.
First, keep your makeup as cool as your daquaries. Not only do you sweat in heat, your makeup doesn't like the heat either. Exposed to too much heat, the ingredients in your cosmetics actually separate. Try avoiding putting the goods in your glove box or purse during the day. Your sunscreens, foundation, concealer, and lip gloss can end up being runny. Avoid explaining why you look so sexy with that smudge running down your cheek by storing your beauty supplies in a cool place, such as your cooler if you're planning to be in the car. Also when outside (and when safe) keep your purse in the shade. Aside sunscreen as it is meant to be at room temp, place your makeup in the fridge. Besides remaining cool, it refreshes sticky skin!
Don't forget, H2O should be the last thing you party with. No that doesn't mean giving up those frosty beverages for a boring bottle of water. Before you hit the sheets, make sure to wash off your makeup. Though you may not be caked with makeup, oil and dirt build up during the day, clogging your pores. You wouldn't want to be the next ProActive spokesperson now would you? Clogged pores cause zits. The simple solution is cleaning your face with cleansing towelettes. Check the Biore or Neutrogena hygein product line. Biore offers Daily Deep Pore Cleansing Clothes for only $6.
Your hair needs special attention, too. Swimming in your pool is great for your body, but your hair may beg to differ. Salt and chlorine stick to your hair's cuticles, making it brittle, dull, dry, and breakage is as easy as jumping in that pool. Of course, you don't want to avoid all fun in the sun water activities, so simply wet your head before heading out to the pool. The cuticle will be saturated already so chlorine and salt will less likely be absorbed. Once you're finished, as soon as you can rinse your hair. Before swimming, apply a small amount of a leave-in conditioner. After a dip in the pool, be sure to use a heavy conditioner to replace moisture.
Sharing makeup is like sharing utensils, it may seem easier to just use someone else's but germs are waiting for you to fall into their trap. Germs often hang out on used makeup tips. Saliva and mucus reside on makeup products and spread virus and bacteria as easy as open and reapply. Of course your friends may not have herpes or a cold, but why risk putting off your summer fun? A good hygienic habit is to soak your brushes in soap and water every week to help remove dirt that's been built up. It's a two-minute process and can be done while you're in the shower.
Watch your feet. Sure wearing flip flops makes you want to get your feet pampered, until you get an infection. First, make sure your clippers and any other tool is soaked in an alcohol-based cleaner after every use. Take precaution not to cut open the cuticle as infections can linger right on in. If you head out to get a professional pedicure, make certain that the pros use a new set of tools for every client. Say no to callus cutters. Avoid any whirlpools or any body of water that shows any sign of grime build-up. If you have a cut or any blisters on your feet, make sure they heal before getting a pedicure unless you want to invite fungus into your life.
