No matter how hard you try to avoid it, adversity is always right around the corner. In the blink of an eye, times of laughter can be replaced by tears. The world as you knew it, as you lived it, no longer exists. You find yourself lost, broken and hopeless.

What do you do when your world has been turned upside down? Where can you turn? I always find it compelling that in times of trouble, tribulation and tragedy, people cry out to God. The old saying that you'll never find an atheist in a fox hole has merit. When it's too big, when it's too painful, when we are completely desperate, there He is.

Innately, we need something greater than ourselves to blame, curse, ask the question why, beg for mercy, seek peace, return to normalcy, or just help us smile again. God is up for the task. In fact, our brokenness bares His greatest triumph. I know that might sound strange, but hear me out.

God does not bring sorrow into our lives to test us, but rather to educate us. This is when He can do His best work in us. It is through heartache our character is built. Compassion and empathy for others are a result of walking through the storm. Just remember, after the rain, God brings the sun. And, the promise of something beautiful, something new begins to grow.

Hope is restored.
