On May 14, 2007, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) released its "Top Safety Pick 2007". Totally 13 vehicles are on the winner list, including four cars, seven SUVs and two minivans. To become a Top Safety Pick, a vehicle not only needs to earn good ratings on high-speed front, side and rear impact crash tests but also has to offer Electronic Stability Control (ESC) which can significantly reduce crash risk.

The Five Safest Cars I select from the list are shown below according to different categories:

*Large cars- Audi A6
*Midsize cars - Audi A4
*Minivans - Hyundai Entourage
*Midsize SUVs - Acura MDX
*Small SUVs - Honda CR-V

IIHS's report is a good reference. However, it doesn't mean you have to buy cars on the list. Here're some general tips/requirements for you to buy a safety car:

* Try to choose the latest models since these vehicles are better designed for accidents prevention and crash protections
* Go with your friend who knows cars well and listen to his/her suggestions
* Make sure the car is equipped with working airbags, better with side airbags
* Do remember to check carefully the horn, air-conditioning, brakes, lights, heat, seat belts and steering
* Go to website as www.carfax.com to check the vehicle's accident record
* If you have children, the booster seat is a good choice

Keep in mind "YOU ARE ESSENTIAL TO SAFETY" no matter how high your car scores in crash/accident tests. Be responsible for yourself as well as for others.
