Much like the beloved iPod, the iPhone is sure to revolutionize mobile computing, although not in the way one would suspect. This revolution will be in its true use and adaptation, not in technical features, many of which already exist. Like the iPod, and its many variations (the Nano, in particular), what Apple has brought to the technology consumer is a sense of style and ease of use with their products.
Contrary to what many technology companies assume, it's not necessarily technical features that drive the market, and Apple has been a big winner in this discovery. Apple took an ordinary MP3 player (and there are many good ones on the market besides the iPod) and made it a stylish accessory by appealing to consumers based on its end use-listening to great music. It understood that iPod consumers were more about the music than the technology.
In just this way, I fully expect Apple to realize-and market appropriately-those end uses are more important than the technological innovation it offers. People want to use their cell phones for Internet surfing, but most cell phones' screens are too small. They want to listed to their music via cell phone, but the selection available is limited (and not easily transferred from their iPods).
Most of all, Apple knows how to focus its attention on these things to successfully sell. I fully expect the iPhone to be just as important as the iPod in only a few years' time. You don't have to be a technological guru to know how to work an iPod or an iPhone...and that's the real genius behind Apple's products.
