The question: Should students carry on being tested all throughout their secondary school education?
The answer: Yes they should!
Not only does it prepare the students from the more important exams like GCSE's (exams in UK) and A-Levels, but the testing also helps to give teachers a rough idea of how well the child is progressing.
The exams that i am talking about, are little tests that are given to the students below year11, in order to improve the standard of education and lift staff motivation. These exams occur once a year and are not overly important. However once the tests have been taken, the staff of the school can then assess the pupil and decide how to move them forward in the best possible way.
I can see why some people may disagree with what i am saying, as these tests can add unnecessary pressure and stress to the students, but surely, in the long run, these exams can help to make a difference.
I am currently halfway through taking my GCSE exams and i know how much anxiety is built up over them. I also know that the tests for the younger students have not done any harm to me and that if anything, they have helped plan out my future years at the school. For example, if you do badly in a test, you move down a class and so begin working at the level that you are comfortable at.
In conclusion, i do not believe that the tests for younger students should be stopped. They are a part of life, and always will be.
