Ending the conflict in the Middle East

Western Hypocrisy & Oxymoron Politics

Paul Valery once said: " The problem with time is that the future is not what it used to be." In the past the world was involved in a cold war. Basically, there were two camps or blocs. In the surface it was much easier to take sides. There were either communists or capitalists. Both sides controlled the cause factors and their affiliates. Thus, maintaining stability in unstable regions of the world. The interesting thing was that both the NATO (headed by the US) and USSR had direct control on today's religious Moslem fundamentalists! They kept them in check and did not allow them to get out of hand.

Today, everything has changed. Western democracies openly agree on fighting violence and brutality that destabilizes both domestic and international community. They even take a step farther and identify the states and non -governmental organizations that create and support terrorism, yet, openly maintain direct political and economic relations with the "known supporters of terrorism. " This is what I call Oxymoron politics, one major contributing cause of distrust to the West visibly demonstrated by the world community.

Let us focus at the historical events of the region. Let us focus on Eurasia. It is sad to discover that whenever the time has come to choose between human rights and economic interest, both the American and the Europeans have made their choice clear. When conflicts are not resolved though dialogue and compromise due to lack of will and commitment to peaceful resolutions, they turn into hostile intervention and coercive military involvement. Both the US and Europe clearly realize that any policy towards the Middle East requires two key components. First, it needs to be a long term in nature, and second, it must have direct correlation to country's respected domestic and fiscal policies. Economics determines politics. It is true that democracies will never engage one another militarily, but also it is very naive to believe that democracies will never engage against one-another economically. We tend
