Skateboarding is the act of riding on or performing tricks with a skateboard. A person who rides a skateboard or performs tricks.
The first skateboard was made in the 1950's and coincided with the initial popularization of surfing in California. The earliest skateboards were homemade, and constructed of flat wooden planks attached to roller-skate trucks and wheels. It was originally called "sidewalk surfing" and early skaters emulated surfing styles and moves.
In the mid 1960s, skateboarding went mainstream, a number of surfing manufacturers started building skateboards that resembled small surfboards and assembling teams to promote their products.
As time moved on through the 60's, 70's, 80's all the way up to this very day the skateboard is being made better, slicker and move maneuverable to please skaters worldwide.
