Black people, or as they should be called, Americans of African descent should be given restitution. Anyone who has studied the effects of slavery on the generations that have followed would not deny that this is their right. The question is, how should it be done? Restitution for Black people is not for the benefit of their community alone. When you help a disadvantaged part of society you help all of society.

I believe restitution should be in the form of direct aid to the inner cities and poorer rural areas, that may be highly populated by Black people. Proper education and safe communities go along way to enabling people to progress.

At the end of slavery if Black people had been allowed the freedom to live, work, go to school and own land without constant subjugation and murder, then they would have been able to do more for themselves and help their neighbours as well.

Many people had been so damaged by the abuse of the slavery years that they were not capable of functioning normally. Imagine what happened to their children and their grandchildren. The legacy continues. In spite of the hatred and injustice that was directed at them in the "Jim Crow" days many people were able to establish schools, become educated and help their communities.

Restitution in the form of education, health care and programs that directly benefit the family unit would be the best. This benefits the black community and all of America because every citizen that reaches their human potential has more to offer his country.
