Your hourly wage is not always the best measure of how you're doing financially. Because of cost of living differences, making $10 an hour in Hope, Arkansas is a lot better than making $12 an hour in San Diego, California.
Even within a single locale, one's hourly rate is not as important as one's weekly paycheck. Making $15 an hour but being limited to 32 hours a week is not as financially rewarding ($480) as making $12 an hour and getting overtime on a 48-hour week ($624).
Even still, one person could be struggling on $624 a week because of living in an expensive apartment, while another person could be doing just fine on the same pay in less expensive digs.
Many people like to brag about how much they make, but the real question is how well do you live on whatever it is you make?
