If you are looking to make a fair amount of money writing at Helium, then there are two areas that would be of highest interest for you, the first would be Helium's Marketplace, and the second would be the Contest section at Helium.

Marketplace is the spot here at Helium where publishers list titles that they are looking to publish articles on. The earnings can range anywhere from $16.00 to $200.00 per article so not a bad piece of change to pop into your pocket for doing something that you love to do anyway.

The contest section here at Helium actually sets out a tremendous amount of monies for it's resident writers to vie over. Prizes vary with each contest. Be forewarned that in most contests it is not only quality of work that matters but often it is also the amount of writing that you can input over a short period of time. Be prepared to focus a lot of your time and energies into participating in the contest once you have made up your mind to compete for one of the many cash prizes offered each time.

Of course there is also the slow and steady way of earning cash here at Helium. Just write articles when and on what interests you out of the many topics listed here at helium. Then watch and see the earnings as they filter into your account. Be sure not to leave your account inactive for long periods of time, or these earnings will disappear into the air around you, as per your writing agreement here with Helium.

Oh don't forget to rate the works of your peers here at Helium, it is what keeps the system working and most importantly, have fun!

A WORD OF WARNING:
If you are a terrible speller like myself and constantly in need of that most wonderful of all inventions - the spell checker, trust me when I say, don't trust it. You may be, like myself, a speller so bad that even spell checker cannot figure out what you are trying to say. Don't screw up an amazing article by trusting spell check to give you the correct word to replace your much flawed original.

I learned this all too quickly when I leap frogged an article to put in the title of the article, "The Internet Opening Doors For The Disabled". I know the darn title was there when I started writing the article but, like most little things in my world, I somehow managed to misplace it along the way. So I briefly flipped through my article, changing a few words here and there as I went, then I hit spell check. The word looked right so I clicked it and it went. Then I published, my now almost perfect article up and ready, for the world to view.

I went in one more time to browse its brilliance and stopped, mouth hanging open, re-reading that all too awful line time and time again. "My sister and I were integrated by the thought" Integrated? Integrated! What the hell is that doing there? The word was supposed to intrigued! Intrigued not integrated! Stupid spell check! Stupid me for not noticing and trusting spell check to understand what my fuzzy brain was trying to say.

DO NOT TRUST SPELL CHECK. Double verify that what it is putting in there is what you meant to say. Especially as a lot of times by the time you spell check the words are popping up at you and you are not too sure anymore of where or in what context they were originally placed.

Trust spell check only as much as you trust your own spelling skills, which in my case, indicates the mandatory use of a dictionary in the placing of any words over 6 characters in length.
