I believe I was three years old the first time someone asked me what I wanted to do when I grew up. I didn't know then and until the age of 31, I still didn't. Looking back, I can offer a few pointers on how to pick a major. First, don't do what someone else wants you to do. The 4 or 5 or 12 years you spend in college are years you can't get back. Therefore, you better spend them doing something fun and interesting. Second, don't choke. Choking is getting so caught up the moment of making a decision that you close your eyes, point to main campus, and whatever building your eyes land on-that's your major. Don't pick something because you are under pressure from others. Third, and most important, follow your heart, not your small head that contains a small brain. Countless people have gone on to be successful in jobs they hated because they did not follow their dream. Dream and dream big. Remember, this is your chance! Don't waste these young years doing something that will make you miserable.
