Top 20 favorite singers of all time

by Little Roman

Created on: June 10, 2007

Here are my top 20 favorite singers from the last five decades. Some singers are icons that live beyond are life time with their music. Many singers are turned on to us by a friend or a family member. Also with my top twenty favorite singers list is my recommended Cds worth listening too. This is the music that some of us grow up with and the music that another generation is discovering:

1. Bob Dylan (Born May 24,1941) Dylan is one of those singers that you either love his music or you hate it. My recommended listening: "Bob Dylan Greatest Hits", This has been re-mastered. If you want a taste of more music from the 70's 80's 90's, I would recommend the CD "The Essential Bob Dylan". If you're a hard core fan of Dylan , there are many of his original albums on CD and the box set for more Dylan music. Also his 2006 Modern Times, hit number 1 in the US chart.

2. Elvis Presley (Born January 8,1935- Died August 16,1977) Today when I listen to Elvis, I enjoy his music from the CD, "Elvis 1956", like "Money Honey" and "My Baby Left Me", that music is so raw and its real early rock and roll music. Elvis at his best.
My recommended listening: "Elvis at Sun", "The Collection" or "Elvis 1956", "Elvis 30 No.1" and "Second to None". Most all of Elvis' music is re-mastered today.

3. Sam Cooke (Born January 22,1931- Died December 11,1964) Songs like "Only Sixteen", Bring It On Home", "Wonderful Life" and "Cupid", I had on 45 records and worn them out as a kid. He had a great soulful voice. My recommended listening: "Portrait Of A Legend 1951-1964 Sam Cooke", his music is re-mastered and his voice sounds great, like he recorded it in 2003, when the CD came out.

4. Hank William (Born September 17,1923- Died January 1,1953) One of my favorite songs was "My Bucket Got A Hole It". The first verse, says "yeah my bucket got a hole, yeah my bucket got a hole in it, I can buy no beer", I liked this song when I was six and when I was twenty-six. This was one of my favorite drinking songs. My recommended listening: "Hank Williams 40 Greatest Hits" (recordings from mono and 78 recordings) .

5. John Lennon (Born October 9,1940- Died December 8,1980) One of his best albums with the Beatles is "Rubber Soul" with John singing lead on songs: "Norwegian Forest" , "My Life and Girl". My recommended listening: "Beatles No 1" , "Rubber Soul", "Rock n Roll" and "The Very Best of John Lennon", which is re-mastered and is a collection of his popular hits.

6. Paul McCartney (Born June 18,1942) He's still
