I believe in benefits for our military but I do not think that it should include college education for children of military or veterans. I am the daughter of a vet so I would benefit from this but I still do not believe it should happen. I am not in college because I cannot afford it. I believe that if a vet thinks the benefits of the military are so wonderful then he/she should encourage his/her child to join. As a member of the military that child can then have the benefit of free college. If a military personnel or vet do not want their child in the military then they should not get an added benefit that would help encourage them to keep that child out of the military.

Let me put that in better words. If a child knew that he/she could get a college education if he/she joined the military wouldn't he/she be more likely to join than, if that child knew that he/she could get a college education without joining, because one of her parents is/was in the military.

Trust me I only considered joining because of that reason alone. College is very important to me. The only reason I didn't join is because I knew that I would be sent to Iraq and would not get my college education until much later in life - if not at all - I could have died - no thanks.

Thats it! If you offer a child free college for children of the military you are taking away one of the incentives to join.
