Are their really Starving Artist or is that just an old saying? I am one out of hundreds of artist that can tell you as an artist myself (I am in a gallery locally) that the term " starving artist" is not a myth, many times, too many times - it is pure fact. These artists that struggle to bring something to the world besides sadness, anger, ugly attitudes and disaster and yet the talented artist that has clearly a gift, struggles most their lives. Last week, after I personally had a sale at the gallery here in Phoenix, AZ, the gallery celebrated as if it was a rare occurrence. To me that is truly quite sad. However, when you really think about it, why should it be a rare occurrence. What can the artist do to obtain recognition of their work or having more sales when they clearly have talent. How many decades have the saying "starving artist" and how many languages has this saying been so much apart of society. I have three pieces in a gallery, I have a website, Yet, I know there has to be many more ways to have your art known. So many talented artists cannot afford an agent, for after the gallery gets their share then an agent gets theirs, how much revenue remains for the artist? Art supplies climb higher and higher and yet the sales for the artist seem to come slower and slower. Or is it just the exposure problem, the artist not knowing when and where to make themselves known. Even I, who finds them self gifted in many types of art, confused on what would be the next step and how to promote the talent of art. We all love it in our lives, many are true art appreciates, but what can the artist to do, to be more exposed? I would love to have your thoughts, ideas, suggestions, and yes even your debates. As an artist, I and many other artists would be open to any discussion on this subject and would love to have ideas from all of you to jot down. So what can the starving artist do, so that he/she isn't starving?
