How to know when you're too wrapped up in your sports team

Every sports team has its own following. This is usually based on proximity to the team's stadium or some type of personal attachment. Whatever the reason there are a few people who have become a bit more than fans. Their everyday life takes a backseat during the season. If you think you are that person, or someone you know might be becoming one, you may want to pay attention to these signs of...

How you know you are too wrapped up in your sports team!

- When your team wins, your family attends a celebratory dinner; when they lose... no one eats.

- Your teams name is the password to your email account.

- You refer to the off-season as "a dark time in my life."

- When you find out your co-worker is a fan of a rival team, you "forget" to invite them to the company cookout.

- The custodial staff at the stadium recognize you by your first name.

- When your team loses a game, you fly the flags that are suctioned cup to the side of your car window at half mast.

- At Christmas time your co-workers love to draw your name for secret Santa, because you are so easy to shop for.

- The names of all of your kids were based on stars of your team.

- You are the guy who ALWAYS starts the wave... (and yells at everyone that does not stand up).

- When your kids become teenagers they become fans of your rival's team just to be rebellious. You consequently send them to boarding school.

- You have hosted a party to watch a game and kicked one of your friends out for walking in front of the television during a crucial play.

- You have learned to make sacrifices so you can watch your team, unfortunately it is your hygiene that you sacrifice.

- Your autographed sports memorabilia has replaced your children's pictures on the mantle over the fireplace.

- When speaking about your favorite team, you always use pronouns like "we" and "us" as if you are actually part of the team.

- Whenever members of your team start an altercation they are just being competitive, but when your opponents do the same thing, they are low-class, dirty cheaters who don't deserve to breathe the same air as your team.

- You actually feel you have accomplished something if your team goes all the way.

Supporting a team can a fun hobby, and a great time to socialize with friends. However, if any of these signs apply to you or your loved ones, I suggest you seek assistance immediately and set up some type of intervention. Warning: interventions can be violent proceed with caution.
