We all want to graduate and find that perfect job with the perfect company, working for the perfect boss. All too often this does not happen that often. Sometimes we end up working for a company that we dread to work for and sometimes the job has nothing to do with what we want to do or even like to do.
We can find ourselves in this situation, especially right out of college. If this should happen the best thing to do is investigate a company that is not to our liking and see if there are some opportunities for advancement later on down the line. Also see if they have the career path available that you are aspiring to. If the answer is yes then make it your goal, your mission to pursue that job with everything within.
Go to your boss and let him know that's your desire in the future to have that particular job. Ask to shadow someone who is doing that job, in your spare time, right now. Find out every possible aspect of the job including all good and bad points. What are the skill sets necessary to do that job. Are you required to have more education? If so start working on that right now. Let everyone know that's your intention.
Take some outside classes directly related to the job and keep a career binder or goal setting booklet so you can document your efforts. Never take your eye off the prize and when your opportunity finally comes you will be sufficiently prepared.
